What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a scientifically validated methodology applied in today's society within healthcare, education, and the business world. It helps people cope better with stress, become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, and face life with greater resilience.
Mindfulness is a broad term to which everyone can give their own meaning. The basis is awareness: being in the moment and getting in touch with your feelings, thoughts, and senses, without judgment.
As babies, we are actually naturally mindful. Everything is new, and we experience the world purely as it is, with an open mind. Gradually, our minds become fuller and busier, and we start living more and more on autopilot. We react faster, without truly pausing to reflect on what we feel or need. Mindfulness helps us become aware again, step out of that automatic mode, and reconnect with the moment.
Practicing mindfulness
Many people are familiar with the classic form of meditation: sitting in silence, often with closed eyes and in a cross-legged position. Meditation is a powerful way to learn to deal with the raging stream of thoughts. You take the time to get to know them and to look at them from a distance with curiosity, without immediately accepting them as truth. That is a form of mindfulness.
Mindfulness, however, extends beyond just meditating. It is about creating moments of awareness in your daily life. With MindMe, we focus on practical tools that you can always fall back on. This way, you learn to get closer to yourself and treat yourself more gently.
Our lessons are varied and playfully structured. Sometimes we take young people on a silent walk or a lying-down concert, while at other times we do visualizations or short writing assignments in a journal. Games and group discussions also feature, in which we explore themes such as emotions, self-image, and identity together.
In this way, young people are provided with a wide range of exercises and experiences. The goal is for them to gradually assemble their own toolkit: those exercises and working methods that suit them and that they can always fall back on later.
